National Water Industry Workforce Development Audit


Government Skills Australia in partnership with WSAA, AWA and WIOA are conducting a Workforce Development Audit across the Water Industry.
You are encouraged to participate in the Workforce Development survey with the aim of collecting information to assist in the identification of:
• Common occupation titles and roles
• Attraction and retention issues
• Current and future training and development needs.
The information collected will benefit you and the Water Industry nationally across both metropolitan and regional levels.
Your privacy
Please be reassured that Government Skills Australia values your privacy very highly and as such all information collected will remain anonymous and confidential.
CLOSING DATE NOW EXTENDED.
The survey is to be undertaken during the period 1 November 2010 until 1 December 2010.
The people to undertake the survey are operational staff across:
•Asset Maintenance and construction
• Bulk water
• Catchment/Dam/Reservoir
• Drainage
• Groundwater
• Hydrography
• Irrigation
• Trade Waste
• Wastewater Collection
• Water distribution/reticulation
• Wastewater Treatment
• Water Treatment
To ensure the results of the survey are valid and comprehensive we are looking for as many operational staff as possible from the water industry to participate.

Please advise how many staff are anticipated to undertake the survey in hard copy, reply paid envelopes for each staff member will be sent out so the completed survey can be returnedto GSA whilst maintaining confidentiality for the participants.
Completion of the Survey
Further to the completion of the survey period we invite participants to assist in organising validation interviews with Operations Managers. These interviews will either be conducted face to face with GSA visiting your worksite, or alternatively interviews by phone. Interviews will be conducted in January 2011.
It is anticipated that feedback to the Water Industry will occur in February 2011 and at this stage an aggregate report across the industry and a summary report detailing issues within each market segment will be provided to participating organisations.
Communication and exchange of information
Government Skills Australia will:
• Ensure that the data captured through SkillGap analysis tool is stored in an encrypted
database to protect confidentiality and anonymity for participants
• Treat all documentation provided including information captured throughout the audit, as
commercial-in -confidence as per SkillGAP privacy policy specifications. Refer to

Your Organisation agrees to:
• Provide Government Skills Australia with access to personnel to undertake the audit and
consider participating in validation interviews.
