Government Skills Australia is the industry skills council for government and community safety. Government Skills Australia is committed to providing high quality training resources and services to support the recognition of skills and professionalism in government administration, services and operations.

Effective and professional services in government depend on a highly skilled and responsive workforce. These skills are essential components in building the capability of Australia through its advanced and complex economic system and the productivity of industry and community.

The Water Sector:

The Water Industry is found throughout Australia, from the largest cities to the smallest remote communities. The importance of the industry cannot be overstated: Australians know that they live on the driest continent and have become well aware of the need to preserve this precious resource. Without the Water Industry, no other Australian industry can survive.

The practices of Water Industry workers and enterprises are critical to the environmental health of Australia and for that reason, great care has been taken in the development of this Training Package to reflect the need for training that recognises and incorporates care of the Australian environment. This need is underscored by the significant shift in public values over the last thirty years that has seen the development of a strong pro-environment preference among the Australian community.
