Message
from the New Zealand Water Operations Group
Our
group started out as a regional group of operator's
interested in sharing knowledge, experiences, and problems
through a series of day and weekend workshops and seminars.
After operating informally for a number of years, the
group became a special interest group of the New Zealand
Water and Wastes Association (NZWWA) in the early 1990's.
The group's membership now includes both water and wastewater
operators and technicians, asset managers, consulting
engineers and suppliers. We hold an independent annual
workshop, as well as a workshop in conjunction with
the NZWWA annual conference.
WIOA and our group have had an informal relationship
for a number of years. We had the pleasure of the company
of George Wall at our conference in 2001 and again in
2004, along with a larrikin named John Harris. Our previous
group Chairperson, Murray Clayton visited Oz and attended
the WIOA conference in 2003. In 2004, a Memorandum of
Understanding designed to further foster our relationship
was signed and a number of our members now hold individual
membership of WIOA as well. This year we have agreed
on a more formal relationship and have taken steps to
investigate a mutually beneficial process to achieve
this.
A
good start to the process is for us to send over a few
representatives of our group to WIOA's Victorian conference.
We pass on our thanks to WIOA and its members and supporters
not only for the invitation to attend the conference,
but also for the efforts made to provide such a comprehensive
and affordable itinerary for the study tour. Like all
operators, many of the guys are shy and withdrawn souls,
so be gentle with them.

We
now extend an invitation for a return study tour
to New Zealand to join us at our North Island
conference in May 2006, followed by a tour of
water and wastewater facilities.
We
wish you well with your conference, and look forward
to forming closer ties over the coming years.
